The 2008 Des Moines Winter Games will feature many activities February 1st, 2nd, and 3rd.  Here is a list of what you will be able to participate in. 

The Polar Plunge - This event kicks off the Winter Games on Friday evening. The Polar Plunge is simple—take at dip in the pond at Sleepy Hollow on February 1st. Costumes are encouraged.
Skiing and Snowboarding - The Ski and Snowboard competition will take place on Saturday, February 2nd at Sleepy Hollow Sports Park .  There will be four events: Big Air/Best Trick, Slopestyle, Slalom, and Moguls.  There will be Men’s and Women’s Classes, with each class being broken into older than 13 and younger than 13.  In the past we have allowed Girl’s to move into Boy’s classes if the want to, and anyone in the under 13 category can compete in the over 13 categories if they want to.  Participants will also be able to compete in both ski and snowboard competitions if they so choose. The awards ceremony would follow at 10:00.


Ice Skating -
On February 2nd Brenton Skating Plaza will have many activities from 8am until noon.  To start the morning Brenton Skating Plaza will be offering free group skating lessons from 8am until 9am while serving coffee and donuts.  

At 9 am there will be some skating demonstrations put on by local skating groups in the Des Moines area.  The demos will include: Solo, Duet or Trio as well as group demonstrations.  This will last 30 minutes.  When the demonstrations conclude the Ice Games begin.  Some of the games will include the limbo and musical chairs.  

When the games conclude at 10am there will be opportunities to get autographs from some of the performers and your chance to have your picture taken with them as well. To conclude the morning’s activities at Brenton Skating Plaza they will be offering an ICE MAKE from 10am until 10:15am with a FREE public skate afterwards.  Only $2.50 to rent skates.  


X-Treme Cross-Country Race -
This event is held at Waveland Golf Course and is organized by Steve Bobenhouse. Prizes are awarded to the top finishers in each class.

12th Annual Des Moines Ice Bowl -
The 2008 Des Moines Ice Bowl is held on January 26th at Grandview Park.  Registration is at 8 AM and tee off is at 9:45.  Entry fee is $15 and three canned items.  There is a $2 ace fund and you can get up to three Mulligans for $1 a piece.  There will be a hot chili lunch served and a Ching Slingshot will be given away to the player with the most canned goods.  This is a trophy only event benefiting the Food Bank of Iowa.  Contact Shane Stewart 515-250-7061.
